TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union, based in Longview, Washington, have selected Grays Harbor College Foundation as a recipient of their Communities First Program. This initiative, launched in 2018, supports educational and healthcare services across eleven counties in Washington and Oregon. To date, the program has donated $238,100 to 13 hospital foundations and seven community college foundations. These funds support supplemental meal programs, student scholarships, and child literacy programs.
Grays Harbor College Foundation will receive $2,500 to support the College’s TRIO Student Support Services program, which assists first-generation college students, low-income students, and students with disabilities. The grant will fund a quarterly Financial Empowerment Curriculum workshop, aimed at developing students’ financial decision-making skills.
The program includes a two-year curriculum. First-year students will learn about saving, paying bills, managing debt, understanding credit, and consumer awareness in Financial Empowerment Year 1. Second-year students will focus on long-term financial goal setting and the financial literacy needed for success at a four-year institution in Financial Empowerment Year 2.
To incentivize participation, the Foundation will offer Visa gift cards to students who complete the program. Those who finish the first year will receive a $50 Visa gift card, with a similar reward for completing the second year.
TLC’s support exemplifies its commitment to empowering students and enhancing educational opportunities within its service areas. The Grays Harbor College Foundation is grateful for this generous contribution, which will significantly impact the lives of many students.
