The Steinway C model piano, an extraordinary instrument with a rich history, has been a centerpiece of the Bishop Center’s stage at Grays Harbor College. Originally built in Germany in 1887, this rare piano was generously donated to the college in 1976 by the renowned Cuban composer Nilo Menendez. For decades, it has played a pivotal role in countless performances, enhancing the cultural fabric of our community.
In 2022, this historic piano underwent a significant restoration, thanks to the support of the Bishop Center Maintenance Endowment and the Druzianich family. The comprehensive overhaul ensured that the Steinway C would continue to deliver its renowned sound quality and preserve its historical significance for future generations. The restoration work, which took nearly a year to complete, revitalized the piano, allowing it to remain a central piece in the performing arts at GHC.
The Steinway C’s legacy is brought to life in performances like those by pianist Alana Everson, accompanied by the GHC Symphony under the direction of Dr. Bill Dyer. Such events showcase the piano’s enduring beauty and the integral role it plays in our musical programming.
As we look to the future, continued support is vital to maintain and enhance our treasured instruments and facilities. Your contributions help ensure that Grays Harbor College remains a beacon of cultural and artistic excellence.
