Relevant Education Requires State-of-the-Art Equipment: Enhancing Learning in Allied Health & Science

The study of human anatomy is a foundational element in allied health and science education. Understanding the complex systems of the human body is inherently challenging, and traditional educational aids like charts and textbooks can only take students so far. The ability to interact with life-like models that allow for hands-on exploration of anatomical structures provides a deeper and more effective learning experience.

Thanks to the generous financial support from alumni John Betrozoff, the Marian J. Weatherwax Trust, and the in-kind contributions from The Moore Wright Group, Grays Harbor College has significantly enhanced its Allied Health and Science Divisions with state-of-the-art anatomical models. These new additions to the educational resources include highly detailed human-sized models of anatomical torsos, circulatory systems, spinal canals, nervous systems, and digestive systems.

Professor Tim Plagge emphasizes the importance of these advanced models, stating, “These models offer students a tangible means of learning about the structure of the human body that is difficult with just images or even lower quality models. The precision and detail provided by these models are crucial for understanding complex anatomical systems and their functions.”

Lisa J. Smith, Executive Director of the GHC Foundation, notes, “The support from our donors has been instrumental in equipping our students with the best resources available. The longevity and quality of these items ensure that their impact on education will be felt for many years to come. Our students will benefit from these resources as they prepare for careers in health and science, ultimately improving the quality of care and expertise within our community.”

By integrating these educational tools into the curriculum, GHC is not only enhancing the learning experience but also preparing students to excel in their future professions. The commitment of donors to advancing educational resources demonstrates a shared vision for high-quality, hands-on learning that will serve students well throughout their careers.
