Grays Harbor College alum and Foundation scholarship recipient Kody LaLonde is using his GHC education to provide care to our community. Born and raised in Montesano, LaLonde attended GHC from 2022 to 2023 to complete his prerequisite classes for paramedic school. After his time at GHC, LaLonde completed the Oregon Health & Science University Paramedic Program. Now, LaLonde is serving Grays Harbor as a Firefighter Paramedic with the Aberdeen Fire Department, because, he says, “I was inspired to work in my home community so that I would be able to give back to the community who supported me.”

LaLonde credits the Foundation with providing the financial support needed to pursue his career. The Peter & Marie Schafer Memorial Scholarship LaLonde was awarded allowed him to pay for tuition, books, and class supplies. LaLonde’s advice to current students is, “Build strong connections, take advantage of local opportunities, and stay engaged with the community.”
