Evan Yankey’s journey began with an obsession for diesel technology. Intrigued by the intricacies of engines and the promise of a rewarding career, he embarked on an educational path at GHC that would ultimately redefine the Diesel Technology program itself. Little did he now that his initial steps into the world of diesel tech would lead to a narrative marked by leadership and educational excellence.
Before graduating the program in 2017, Evan was already employed in the industry due to the demand for mechanics. When the opportunity arose to be an instructional assistant in the Diesel Tech program at GHC, Evan applied and was hired in 2019. In 2020, Evan completed his Bachelors of Applied Science Degree in Organizational Management at GHC and was hired as full-time faculty of the Diesel Tech program in 2022.
In transitioning from student to faculty, Evan brought with him a unique perspective grounded in the challenges and opportunities inherent in the diesel tech industry.
Returning to the program as an instructor, Evan’s mission to enhance the classroom experience has thrived through collaboration with the Grays Harbor College Foundation. Forming strategic partnerships with donors who share a vision for a skilled workforce, Evan has successfully implemented changes that are reshaping how students engage with the diesel tech curriculum.
In a recent development, the PACCAR Foundation generously donated a semi-truck and training engine. This infusion of equipment not only enhances the learning experience but also aligns with industry standards, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the demands of the modern workforce.
Evan’s journey, from learner to leader, transcends mere program modernization; it embodies his unwavering commitment to empowering the next generation of diesel technology professionals.
