Donor contributions are cooking up opportunities at Grays Harbor College, enabling the launch of the Culinary Arts Program and the revival of community and continuing education courses.
Culinary Arts Program – A Recipe for Success: This fall, GHC will debut its Culinary Arts Program in the cutting-edge culinary lab at the new tulalW Student Center. Longtime chef and retired Savory Faire owner, Candi Bachtell (photo right), has been instrumental in developing the program’s curriculum and recruiting Chef Nina Urioste (photo left) to join as faculty.
“Lifting a new vocational program comes at an expense,” said GHC President Carli Schiffner. “The Foundation is a critical partner in launching this program, helping secure the services and resources needed to ensure its success.”
The Return of Community and Continuing Education: In addition to Culinary Arts, Bachtell is spearheading the return of community and continuing education courses, which were mostly paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. This winter and spring, Foundation support will help offer a range enriching classes, including numerous culinary courses like Dubai chocolate making, photography, and calligraphy, with fees ranging from $50 to $125.
Bachtell, who brings extensive experience in community education, is eager to build these offerings. “It’s about creating a place where people can come together to learn, connect, and grow,” she shared, emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning and community engagement.
