Grays Harbor College has a long tradition of showcasing art by local talents such as David Waller and Elton Bennett. Continuing this legacy, the GHC Foundation champions the power of art to inspire, connect, and enrich the community. By supporting the commissioning of artwork from the current generation of local artists, the Foundation underscores its belief in the importance of creativity and cultural vibrancy in fostering a thriving community. These efforts celebrate the region’s rich heritage while enhancing the student experience by connecting them to the unique history and spirit of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties.
Carrie L. Larson’s commissioned piece, Vital Flow (pictured right), now graces the tulalW Student Center. Using a color palette inspired by river flows through forests, valleys, and estuaries, the piece embodies a deep sense of place. Her inclusion of poetry speaks to shared landscapes, histories, and cultures, reflecting the distinctive spirit of the region.
Earl Davis of the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe was commissioned for two remarkable pieces that honor the area’s Native heritage and cultural richness. These works create a space that is not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful to the community.
The community is warmly invited to visit the tulalW Student Center to view these stunning pieces, located on the first and third floors. Together, these artworks showcase the enduring role of art in shaping our shared spaces, connecting people, and celebrating the diverse narratives that define our region.
